Cameo No 3: Interactive Light Sculpture

Design Objective: To demonstrate the versatility of Dupont's new product Corian® by transforming it into an interactive and immersive artwork that brings together music, touch, light, and social interaction. The objective was to showcase the unique properties of Corian® and how it can be used in innovative ways. The artwork was commissioned as a way to highlight the capabilities of the material and its potential for use in the world of art and design.

Design Concept: Cameo No.3 represents the intersection of music, touch, light, and social interaction, where sound exploration becomes the genesis of art. The piece transforms Dupont's Corian® material into a soft and atmospheric sculpture that allows a play of LED-driven light to glow through, while a multi-zoned sound system plays music through the piece via three touch-activated podiums so that individuals can conduct their experience by way of music and light. The underlying concept is united by the notion of blending advanced materials and technology with nature, warmth and human touch.

Type: Interactive Lighting Sculpture, Audio-Reactive, Semi Permanent

Techniques: The design and fabrication of Cameo No.3 were developed in collaboration with ZGF Architecture and utilized Thermo-formed and CNC routed spires. The piece features a multi-zoned sound system, LED-driven light, and capacitive touch interaction. The sound system is audio reactive, allowing the light and sound to change in response to touch.

Materials: front-milled and thermo-formed acrylic, painted steel pipe, generative animated lighting, generative soundscape, and spatial audio.

Partners: ZGF Architects, Piano Push Play, DotDotDash, DuPont
