Bird Of Paradise: Sculptural Lighting Design

A public art project in Tampa, FL created by Curtis Pittman and Nathanael Jenkins.

 

Design Objectives: The main objectives of the "Bird of Paradise" sculpture in Carrollwood Village Park, Florida, are to strengthen the park's identity and enhance visitors' connection to the surrounding natural world. The artwork serves as a wayfinding device and iconic symbol for park visitors, and is a tribute to the importance of wildlife and ecological sustainability. It also serves to bring awareness to these issues.

Design Concept: The "Bird of Paradise" sculpture is prominently situated in the SE corner of Carrollwood Village Park, and is a 26-foot-tall tribute to the importance of wildlife and ecological sustainability. It serves as a natural symbol of life and enhances visitors' connection to the surrounding natural world. The sculpture also features animated pixel-mapped LED lighting inside the interior ribs and matching color palette that is highlighted during sunsets.
